So, I’ve been obsessed with the soundtrack for the musical Wicked, which was recently turned into a movie (and very critically acclaimed). I thought the movie was really good and the music was excellent (especially No One Mourns the Wicked, The Wizard and I, and What is This Feeling). I decided to listen to the Wicked Japanese Soundtrack with the original Japanese. The soundtrack is just as wonderful and it was really interesting to look at the different translations for the same song (I’m not certain if this translation is 100% accurate, but you know). In this song specifically, I noticed the Japanese version talk about death more and more directly than the English version. I also found it interesting how the citizens of Oz call Glinda, ガリンダ さま , and deify her in a way they don’t in the English version. Anyway, definitely give it a listen.

So, lately I’ve been slightly obsessed with 西山 and his silly dance. 西山 is a Japanese Tiktoker who started making TikToks doing his ‘Nishiyama Daddy Daddy Dance’ to advertise his bar. The dance is super fun and silly and I’m obsessed with the way he moves. I feel like I’m learning a lot about Japanese bar and host culture through his TikToks. Nishiyama world domination!!!!!!
